Welcome to the World, Sweet Anna!

On Friday, September 18 Wayne and I went to see Dr. Rabie for my 37 week doctor appointment.  My pregnancy had been going great, (after those first 20 weeks of constant sickness!) but Miss Anna was still measuring a couple of weeks behind. Dr. Rabie was concerned that there might be some sort of trauma keeping her small, so we were told we would be coming back twice a week to get monitored and do a NST. After checking my cervix, he decided to do a membrane sweep just to speed things along. He said he would rather her come on her own, but if not we would induce in the 39th week.

Being a first time mom, I just knew that she was not going to make her appearance early. We went out to lunch after the doctors appointment, it was national cheeseburger day! :) We headed back to the ranch and it was a normal evening.

At 4am I woke up having what I assumed were contractions, but I wasn't quite sure! At one point, Wayne woke up to moaning and groaning and asked me what in the world was going on. I told him that I thought I was having contractions, but they didn't seem to be regular and not to worry. By 5am I started timing the contractions and they were consistently 8 minutes apart. I called the nurse hotline and she said once contractions were about 5 minutes about to go ahead and go to the hospital to get checked. Cary was panicking because we were so far from the hospital and told us to go NOW, but we waited a few hours until they were closer together. We had to sent our boys to the house next door when they woke up, and we headed into town.

On the way into town, I decided that I really needed some breakfast from Chick Fila. ha! Might as well give into those pregnancy cravings one last time! I called Bodee and sent him there, and then we met up because we had to give him Arty.

To make a long story short, our first trip to the hospital was not a pleasant experience. I was dilated 2cm but the doctor there didn't think I was going in labor and sent us home. Needless to say, we were not happy campers! Wayne, Cary and I went to the mall to walk around but I could barely walk through the contractions. Afterward, we had no idea what to do and unfortunately made the wrong decision to drive back to the ranch.

As soon as we got back to the ranch the contractions became almost unbearable. Within 10 minutes I told Wayne we had to go back, I didn't care what that doctor said I knew I was in labor! The ride to the hospital would have been quite comical if I wasn't the one laying in the backseat rolling around with my feet in the air trying to breathe through contractions. Wayne was smart and kept his laughter to himself though. :)

Back at the hospital we quickly learned that I was dilated almost to a 5 and that Anna would be making her appearance!

When we found out we were being admitted!

We got to our room, lucky 507 and things started to progress quickly! Before we knew it, I had an epidural hooked up and everyone started to arrive. The epidural decided to work for about 1 hour before it completely FAILED. That hour was the sweet calm before the storm spent with family anxiously waiting for Miss Anna. They broke my water when I was 6cm and started pitocin. That was when the real "fun" started.

Yay for the epidural

Aunt Tami came!

Papa Lonnie

Also there were Aunt Cary, Gigi, and great grandma Lorrayne. Uncle Joe came later as well!

Within 20 minutes I dilated from a 6 to a 10 and ready to push. The epidural completely failed and the anesthesiologist was in a C-section and couldn't come fix mine until it was too late. The contractions had no break in between and the pain was something that I didn't know could exist! Now, when they ask me what my pain is on a scale of 1 to 10 I actually have a basis for what a 10 is. I don't want to hear any man saying they are at a 10 unless they have a limb detached! :)

Although they tried to fix my epidural, I told them that I had to push! Within a minute I was ready to deliver and they got Wayne and Cary in the room. The doctor came in and after about 5 to 7 minutes of pushing Anna Lorrayne came into the world and changed our lives forever!!!

Meet Anna Lorrayne. 5lbs 4oz and 17 3/4 inches long.

Our amazing nurse, Maddie!!
